Woah, Science Has Just Discovered You Might Have The Wrong Zodiac Sign

Must read

Here at ELLE, we love change.

We embrace change.

With the coming of each season, we welcome new trends, unknown music artists, Netflix series and styling hacks with open arms and merriment.

But today, we despise change.

Why?

Because NASA has just gone and dropped the mother of all bombshells to announce there’s another zodiac sign and we’ve basically been living our lives under false pretenses this whole time.

Way to go NASA, ruin our lives why don’t you?

What’s worse is the astronomical research agency revealed they were going to change the zodiac system back in January and it went completely under the radar.

In a blog post published in January, good ol’ NASA quietly reminded the world that there are in fact 13 constellations in the original zodiac and not 12, as we’ve become accustomed to believe.

Thankfully, we know exactly who to blame – the Babylonians, who 3,000 years ago decided to ignore the 13th constellation because they already had a 12-month calendar and didn’t want to make it more confusing for the rest of the world.

Listen up, Babylonians – Whatsapps, exes, dirty plates in the sink you can ignore (kind of).

A whole other constellation – not so much.

As a result, NASA has decided to right their wrongs and reaffirm the 13th constellation – known as ‘Ophiuchus’ back into the zodiac system.

‘Now, 3,000 years later, the sky has shifted because Earth’s axis (North Pole) doesn’t point in quite the same direction,’ the NASA explanation says.

So, what does this new zodiac sign mean for us?

Well, if you were born between 29 November and 17 December, you’re officially an Ophiuchus. Congrats.

The Ophiuchus’ sign is a man holding a snake called a Serpentarius and those with this star sign seek peace and harmony, are impulsive, clever, poetic and inventive but can be jealous, power-hungry and temperamental.

For the rest of us, our zodiac signs have shifted to the following:

  • Capricorn: Jan 20 – Feb 16
  • Aquarius: Feb 16 – March 11
  • Pisces: March 11 – April 18
  • Aries: April 18 – May 13
  • Taurus: May 13 – June 21
  • Gemini: June 21 – July 20
  • Cancer: July 20 – August 10
  • Leo: August 10 – September 16
  • Virgo: September 16 – October 14
  • Libra: October 14 – November 23
  • Scorpio: November 23 – November 29
  • Ophiuchus: November 29 – December 17
  • Sagittarius: December 17 – January 20

Just give us a minute while we question everything we ever knew in life.
