In cricket, After averaging over 100 for three successive domestic seasons, Sarfaraz Khan is all set to get a Test cap as he is in the playing XI for the third Test at Rajkot. Sarfaraz has been toiling hard for the past few years. Even though selectors picked Rajat Patidar ahead of him after Virat Kohli’s withdrawal from the first two Tests, the 26-year-old didn’t lose hope. A day after the selection day snub, he scored 161 against the England Lions. Also making his debut for the Test starting on Thursday, February 15 will be wicket-keeper batsman Dhruv Jurel. The 23-year-old Uttar Pradesh gloveman will replace KS Bharat, who was far from his best so far in the series.

Raj Limbani’s in-swing bowling caught everyone’s attention at the U-19 World Cup. In the final, the right-arm quick was India’s best bowler, picking up three for 38, though not enough to get the desired result. In a chat with The Indian Express, Limbani’s long-time coach Digvijay Singh Rathwa said, “His strength has always been the outswinger. Irfan (Pathan) was really impressed with his pace but he wanted him to work on his inswing as well to be more unpredictable.” Limbani was in two minds and a bit worried about whether he would be the same bowler or not if he worked on the in-swinger. But in Rathwa, as a mentor, Limbani took up the challenge and worked on his inswing.

One of India’s batting mainstays KL Rahul has been ruled out for the third Test match against England in Rajkot. On Saturday, February 10th, while announcing the team, the BCCI statement said that “the participation of Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul is subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI medical team”. The Indian Express understands that while Rahul wasn’t found to be fully fit yet, Jadeja was given the green signal to take the field for the crucial third Test in the series which is tied 1-1. Devdutt Padikkal will be replacing Rahul in the Test squad.

Brazil has won a men’s football medal at the past four Olympics. Argentina, who won gold in 2004 and 2008, finished the final qualifying event with five points. Luciano Gondou’s header in the 77th minute was enough to give the victory to Argentina, gold medalists at the 2004 and 2008 Games. Gondou said, “We deserved this.” Brazil midfielder Andrey Santos said, “It is a very bad feeling, we prepared well for this. We struggled to keep the ball throughout the tournament. It didn’t go as we expected.”

In a chat with The Indian Express, Anand said, “The idea for the chess academy was to have a programme by which Indian youngsters carry the torch forward. I’m very happy that the first group we picked are all doing so well now. I’ll admit to being slightly surprised by how quickly they have done it.” Anand clarified that the counsel he provides to players is just suggestions. He gets them to visualise tournament scenarios.

In wrestling, in a chat with The Indian Express, Dr Samuel Pullinger, head of Sports Science at JSW’s Inspire Institute of Sport training centre at Vijayanagar in Karnataka, shared some insights into how he is trying to wean away the centre’s women wrestlers from a punishing pre-weigh-in regime. He said, “There were too many risks, the ACL and other serious injury count was high after too much weight was suddenly dropped and that offset any other power advantage. I decided to initiate them into gradual weight loss in the weeks preceding with help from coaches and nutritionists and Strength & Conditioning trainers, and dragging them away from malpractices that have set in to make weight,”

Lastly, at the Superbowl, Taylor Swift was spotted in the stands as her boyfriend Travis Kelce bumped Kansas City Chiefs coach and knocked the 65-year-old a few steps back after teammate Isiah Pacheco fumbled inside the red zone during the second quarter of the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11th.
