Euro 2024: England fans give verdict on display against Slovenia

The group stage of Euro 2024 is officially over and the knockout rounds will get underway on Saturday.

16 of the 24 teams who started the tournament are left, with the likes of Croatia, Scotland and Ukraine all crashing out. The sides who finished first and second in the six groups all qualified for the last 16, while the top four teams who finished third also went through.

And with Georgia’s win over Portugal and Turkey’s 2-1 win over the Czech Republic finishing off the group stage, we now know the exact last 16 fixtures. Gareth Southgate’s England topped their group and they will now meet Slovakia in Gelesenkirchen on Sunday thanks to Portugal’s shock defeat.

Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze earned Georgia a 2-0 win and meant England avoided facing the Netherlands, who finished third in their group behind Austria and France.

Switzerland will face Italy in Berlin in the first last 16 match on Saturday, hosts Germany taking on Denmark in Dortmund later that same day. Spain will also be in action on Sunday when they meet Georgia in Cologne.

France will then take on Belgium in Dusseldorf on Monday, with Portugal also set to face Slovenia in Frankfurt that same day. The final two matches will see Romania meet the Netherlands in Munich and Austria take on Turkey in Leipzig on Tuesday.

England, meanwhile, will be desperate to put in a much-improved performance against Slovakia after Southgate’s side received plenty of criticism over lacklustre draws against Denmark and Slovenia.
